Temporary Employer Sponsored Visas

A Temporary (Short Stay) Work visa lets you work in Australia to do short term, highly specialised, non-ongoing work, generally this visa allows you to remain in Australia for 3 months but in some instances, it can be up to 6 months. To apply for this visa, you must be outside Australia when you apply and when it is granted. The processing time for this visa is 5 working days – 1 month.

A Temporary Skills Shortage visa lets you work in Australia for an employer who is an approved sponsor from 2 to 4 years, depending on your occupation. To be eligible you must meet the criteria for sponsorship under an occupation listed on the Short-term Occupation List (STSOL) or the Medium and long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL). The length of your visa and whether you have a pathway to permanent residency is determined by the list your occupation is on.

If your occupation is on the Short-term Occupation List (STSOL) you will be granted a 2 year Temporary Skills Shortage visa. You will have the opportunity to re-apply for a further 2 years only.

If your occupation is on the Medium and long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) you will be granted a 4 year Temporary Skills Shortage visa and you will also have a pathway to permanent residency.

In March 20018, the Temporary (Long Stay) Work Subclass 457 Visa was abolished and replaced with the Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) Subclass 482 Visa.
